The trip has had their first night in Mexico, with a nice night of sleep we start our first full day in the beautiful city.
We started off our day with a breakfast in the hotel restaurant and then we headed off our way over to church.
At church we were so lucky, the pastor Pablo was so kind and found us a translator, so we were able to hear the whole sermon. Which was amazing because it was communion week, so we got to enjoy a nice Spanish-English sermon with the community of Mexico.
After church we headed to the market, where we got our weekly food for market breakfasts for fast mornings. Some of us got food, where others got milk or smoothies in a bag, the classic tradition in Mexico for the team.
After the market we headed had two groups, one group headed to Walmart for supplies people wanted for the first couple of days, and the other group headed to the hotel to hang out. Some of us got in a pool, others took naps. Just enough to hang out before we headed to Matriz for the Quinceanera.
The party took place at Matriz the main orphanage, we had the party out in the giant courtyard since their were about a total of 150 people coming, the party was wonderful. We started out with a photo booth where people were able to take polaroid pictures and hang them on rows of strings with clothespins so people could enjoy everyone’s photos. Once we had at least a half our of photos with the kids Pastor Nahun did a blessing to wish good luck to Sasha as she turns 15 and continues to follow the path God has made for her. Once the blessing was done, Sasha made a speech towards everyone thanking the people for coming and celebrating this day, and it was all in Spanish! After her amazing speech it was time for daddy daughter dance to a Spanish version of Butterfly Kisses.
Once the dance was done it was game time while we waited for dinner to be ready, we played bingo because it was the easiest game for all the kids because there were so many people to include in the game. We played a couple versions of Bingo, two normal versions of five in a row, a version of getting the four corners, and finally a blackout version.
Because dinner was taking so long since the tortillas were being handmade we did Piñatas. We had four pinatas because we had so many people and there was a big range of kids that were there and wanted to hit the piniata. The first piñata was of a Among Us and was for the younger kids that got pretty beat up fast. The second one was of Bo Beep and that also was pretty beaten up, the third one was of a Minion and this one took a little longer because because it was of the older kids and they had to spin 10 times before being able to take swings at the piñata. But in the end, it was also destroyed pretty fast. The final piñata was of Isabella from Encanto and matched Sasha’s outfit perfectly so of course she got first hit at the Piñata. In the end all of them were destroyed in at least 45 minutes so we ended up hanging out before dinner.
We had tacos for dinner and then a break between that while we waited for people to eat and clean up dishes before we had cake.
Man was that exiting, they sung, the cake was big and then Sasha got her head smashed into the cake and smothered in Icing from the kids. But at least the Cake was good, we then gave out goodie bags said bye to the kids and headed back to the hotel to go to bed and get ready for our first day of work.
