Wednesday Week Two

By Kristel Lundberg

HUMP DAY!!!!

The advice we got Wednesday morning was:

  1. It’s ok to be tired - tap out for a minute if you need to. (Tap tap tap!)
  2. It doesn’t matter how you look. (Phew)
  3. Drink lots of water.  (It’s seriously so hot I can’t stop sweating!)
  4. Embrace the hugs.  (They really are life sustaining!)

Hump Day hugs to make you cry…

The team is tired, sore, and still crazy energized about the work we are doing!
Wednesday was packed full of work and fun activities!

We started out the day with a yummy “market breakfast” - cereal, mango, pineapple, yogurt, and granola and then headed over to the orphanage.  We had a devotional about how children are the “greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  We each decided what childlike attribute we wanted to focus on for the day; humility, quick to laugh, quick to forgive, honesty, carefree…

We then broke into our groups.  The kids painted rocks at the craft table and wound wire around them to act as a picture holder.

The songs group played Simón Dice (Simon Says) and Luz Roma Luz Verde (Red Light Green Light.)  Sore legs were grateful for no more games that require continuous squats!

Sports played Nueve Cuadrados (9 square) - so fun!

After lunch at Casa Cuna (where the little’s live) we had an Easter egg hunt!  The kiddos got to decorate their bags and then go out and find cinco eggs each!  They were freaking adorable!

Throughout the day there was painting, painting, and more painting!  I’m pretty sure no one on the team will ever paint their own house.  (I was going to say yellow, but after this I think it might just be house.)

The sewing team got to see how the 21 waterproof mattress covers fit for the beds in Casa Cuna.  They also got quite a bit of mending done!

Andy and Buddy were hard a work all day fixing all things plumbing among other things.  Those guys sure are handy!

We got to enjoy THE MOST DELICIOUS tacos, served by the wonderful house parents of Casa Matriz.

Afterword we hid eggs for the kids that live in that house.  At first they got to find quince huevos cada uno (15 eggs each) and then it was a free for all.  It got pretty dark.  I wonder how many huevos will still be found in the morning?!

It was a FULL, FUN, and FABULOUS day!!

Marcia said a prayer earlier in the week that asked God to help us love what is in front of us.  That is a prayer that I will carry in my heart always.  In talking with one of the orphanage volunteers last night, he told us that he was one month into a six month commitment.  He now wants to do the work at Hogar de Amor full time.  He said that it is in the hands of God how it all works out.

Please pray that the team here in Mexico will be held in God’s hands.  Pray that we remain full of energy and safe.  Pray that our hearts are full of love and pray for the astounding hands that care for these children day after day after day.

Here’s one more happy  hump day hug to take you on your way… (It’s one of my personal favorites.  The LOVE HERE IS REAL!!!)
